From the racer’s wife……..
Well as you know our opening night was cancelled due to the weather…gee what a bummer we were all hyped up and ready to go!!! I had only just put the coldies on ice and the car had just been put into the trailer when we got the dreaded phone call.
Talk about a let down…..
Instead we went to dinner and had a great meal and lots of laughs at the Ahlquist/ Day House with entertainment from Ace Speedcar Driver Mark Brown…gee brownie is one funny character!!!!
Talking about characters, I have met a few over my time being involved in Speedway, some good and some bad apples too… I have many friends whom I can dearly say will be around for the longest of times. They sure know who they are!!!!
Anyway one great person I had the privilege of meeting was at my very first John Day Speedway Ball. I was 3 months pregnant with our Daughter Tiffany “who’s now 13 by the way, doesn’t time fly!”
This person proceeded to pull me onto his lap to introduce himself, as none other than Brad Fatrat Steele…..whilst copping a handful at the same time.
Sorry Chelsea...hehehe….
Well what can one say about the big man himself… he’s funny, he can be entertaining, he’s just an all round lovable character whom you won’t forget in a hurry as I’m sure he wouldn’t let you. He and Allan have been friends for many years, and have quite a few stories they could tell but as the saying goes “what happens in??? Stays in?????”
Fatrat has been a huge support over the years to Allan’s racing and we can’t thank him enough, but to only support him when he finally starts racing himself. Fatrat; you have given us fun times, laughter and lots of memories and we are glad you are part of our family race team.
Family plays a big part in our team, we believe that to have our family around as well as our extended families helps us as a team. I look at the racing families around Speedway today and I have to admire and respect them. Some have been around for many years, some have moved onto other sports whilst some have left and come back. Some have had to overcome the pain of losing loved ones, the heartache of not winning that special race so dear to them, to the joys of overcoming their personal battles. Every family has their highs and lows, great nights and bad but we all have one thing in common and that is without the support and love from those dear to us we would not have those memories we cherish, or the joint experiences we so much love from being involved in this sport.
So I have to ask! Is the saying “a family that plays together, stays together” is it true?
Well looking around the pits on a Saturday night, watching family’s working together on their cars, my answer is quite simple………I believe so……
Until next time, take care
